Positive Behaviour Strategies

Not Your Traditional Approach to Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)

While DATS is not providing official PBS services at this stage, the strategies on this page have been found effective for addressing behaviour and improving quality of life in immeasurable ways. We can coordinate PBS and complimentary supports on your behalf.  DATS is committed to exploring simple approaches with a strong evidence base to improve quality of life factors, in the most least restrictive and informative way.

Targeted Nutrition to Identify Health Antagonists

DATS is committed to networking with bulk-billing and holistic GP's that can refer individuals for urinary pyrrole testing and other nutrient deficiencies and imbalances that can have a massive influence on behaviour and psychological functioning.  This avoids potential for revictimising individuals for factors that may be outside their control.  

It's important to note that changing diet isn't a magic bullet for all mental and physical ailments, however it is giving individuals the best chances to recover and thrive. This process cannot induce stress, so needs to be fully endorsed to be effective.

Identifying antagonists to health and wellbeing such as urinary pyrroles can be life changing for some individuals. 

Self-Regulation through Vagus Nerve Activation

The vagus nerve has 80% of fibers leading directly from the body's organs to the brain. Body focused strategies, therefore provide a fast way to address dysregulation. Breathing techniques, movement, humming, drumming are all strategies to activate the ventral vagus nerve and promote a sense of calm.
 

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) involve 'tapping' on median points while focusing on body sensations & feelings. Working 1:1 initially can help motivate individuals to try this technique when a distressing event or thought comes up.  

This process can be easily taught to help calm the amygdala and reduce stress experienced in the body - fast - helping us 'tap' the rational part of our brain so not be operating in constant survival mode.

These strategies can be integrated with art & expressive therapy supports.

Introducing Concept of Individualised  Nutrition

 

DATS provide a free nutritional plan to assist with balancing biochemistry and improve overall health functioning using professional hair mineral analysis services. The laboratory conducting the analysis has been operating for over 45 years. A comprehensive report is provided to explain what the results mean with recommendations to address imbalances in a stepped approach. This is intended to complement other supports and is provided free with all contracted supports.

 

Hair mineral analysis provides information about what the body is eliminating / storing in your tissues. There may be various explanations for the results, and this is discussed in detail with a stepped approach to help transition toward a healthier individualised diet. 

 

It is important to note that this approach does not exceed recommended supplement dosages and that some foods, even if healthy, may not be helping your body work at optimal levels (at this particular point in time). 

Hair tests are repeated after a few months because your dietary needs change as your biochemistry adjusts.  See here for more information.

People with a slow metabolism (oxidation rate) may take a little longer to feel the benefits than someone with a faster metabolism. The take home message is that putting good foods and nutrients into your body that suit what your biochemistry is experiencing now, will do no harm (with an emphasis of obtaining this where possible through what we eat and harnessing the power of adaptogens).  

 

It is important to keep the process simple and reduce risk of stress. For this reason there are three dietary plans to choose from.  This will help adjust your eating regime and start to substitute foods at a pace that works for you.
