Person Centered & Systems Approach
This graphic gives you an idea of how to think about different systems operating in our lives.
Barriers / facilitators with what we'd like to be doing interact on many levels. We collaboratively look at what's important to you in relation to yourself, your significant others, community, work/education, and broader systems that can impact on daily life and the decisions we make.
Lot of factors can influence how we see and interact with the world around us. A holistic approach is to creatively explore strengths and resources that can help navigate obstacles (attitudinal, physical or both) that may prevent us from achieving smaller and long term goals.
Trauma-Informed Recovery Orientated Care & Practice
Trauma-informed care and practice ensures clients feel safe accessing a service and are aware of what to expect at all levels of operation.
You are the expert in your life about what does and doesn't work for you. Using tools such as the 'Wellness Recovery Action Plan' is one way to ensure your needs are met, and communicate choice and control to others who may be looking after your needs (so nothing gets lost n translation).
Recovery orientated practice seeks to provide optimal conditions so you can operate at your best and experience quality of life.
DATS is not a service that directly treats trauma, although can help with providing self-regulation strategies to de-escalate distress in the here and now, while promoting a safe and calm environment.
If you need to access a trauma specialist, DATS can help coordinate supports with an appropriate practitioner in the field you require.
It is up to you what you want to disclose, but please let DATS know if there is anything that could potentially trigger or cause distress to ensure you have a positive experience.

Helen has lived experience working with individuals experiencing complex mental health and challenging behaviours and understands first hand how compounding stressors and life events can impact issues around anxiety and depression. A support worker before even knowing this was a thing, Helen was providing informal supports for a friend diagnosed with schizophrenia as far back as 1995 and after a family member experienced a traumatic brain injury resulting in issues with severe depression for decades after. Non-judgmental positive regard and thinking outside the box to find novel and cost effective solutions is a strength driving Disability and Transition Support (DATS).
Having completed Emotional Freedom Technique 1 & 2 (Trauma Informed) through EFT International, DATS is integrating this training with formal education (see below) to provide professional supports that draw on psychological and rehabilitation theory and practice. The aim is to provide an exceptional service that has the potential to provide direct relief from distress as it is experienced in the moment, and most importantly, reinvests contracted funds into foundational supports that come at no extra cost to participants. It is anticipated this will help fill the gap in what is available in the community (without a lengthy wait) and what is presently covered with NDIS and recovery plans.
